Event: OMIA Golf for Education

E-mail: jgirdwood@omiafoundation.org

History

The OMIA Golf for Education Outing began in 2009 as a fund raising effort for McLaren’s Camp Forget-Me-Not for Grieving Children. The Foundation expects to raise over $2,500 to contribute to this phenomenal camp that educates children on the grieving process allowing them closure after experiencing the loss of a loved one.

Why We Golf

Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory – free resource

From [the NWREL website]:

“Since 1966, NWREL has been working to make a difference in students’ lives and those who support their learning. NWREL is a private nonprofit working closely with schools, districts, and other agencies to develop creative and practical solutions to important educational challenges.”

The OMIA Foundation believes that mentoring plays a vital role in children’s lives.  Mentoring is a simple and effective volunteer method, but must be done properly.  The NWREL helps strengthen mentoring techniques by providing free material.  The NWREL material is laid out in a chronological order to study, interpret, and evolve a mentor program that suits your area’s needs.  Absorb the material yourself, then get to action!

All the material above comes from [this] NWREL website.  Check it out for more literature on mentoring from the George Washington University in Washington D.C.
